What began more than 50 years ago as a notion men should have comfortable and functional shorts has since grown into an entire collection of stretch apparel redefining American “Active Classic” lifestyles.
Sportif USA has always stood for providing quality products, innovative fabrics, and attention to detail with unsurpassed customer service.
In 1965, Sportif began as a small business in southern California, headed by John G. Kirsch. In true entrepreneurial style, Kirsch sold tennis shorts from the back of the family’s station wagon, gradually building a reputation for quality and comfort. As Sportif’s reputation grew, so did the market for high-quality, functional apparel.
By 1968, Sportif had developed the first stretch fabric in the burgeoning outdoor industry. With our advancements in fabric technology, The Original 6-Pocket Stretch Cargo Shorts were quickly gaining popularity nationwide. For the next two decades, Sportif would continue to be an innovator, being one of the first manufacturers to utilize Gore-Tex® and sun-protective fabrics.
In March 1991, in a cruel twist of fate, John Kirsch’s twin-engine Beechcraft plane crashed in the snow-covered San Bernardino Mountains. John Kirsch, Jr. took the reigns as President, and with his siblings, continued their father’s legacy advancing Sportif’s reputation as an innovator of comfortable and functional apparel.
2015 marked our 50th year in business as a privately held, family run company. When our father started Sportif back in 1965, we believe he felt there were no boundaries. We’re even more sure of that today.
